At 80 meters depth, the tunnel network is below the effective range of most bunker-busting munitions. At 500 kilometers of length, it cannot be systematically mapped or cleared within any operationally relevant timeframe. Hamas can operate below the surface while Israeli forces operate above it. The two forces are not fighting in the same physical environment.
